Kennel Attendant (Per Diem)

The Town of Ridgefield is currently accepting applications for the position of Per Diem Kennel Attendant. The focus of this position is the care of animals and facility cleanliness. The position is on-call, as needed basis.

Description: Working under the general supervision of the Animal Control Officer, the Kennel Attendant responsibilities include, but not limited to handling, feeding, medicating and watering impounded animals. This position also involves cleaning and disinfecting dog kennels and cat cages; washing laundry and dishes; organizing supplies; as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the food prep and storage areas of the animal shelter. Applicant must be able to maintain the comfort of the impounded animals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Feed and provide fresh water to shelter animals according to established protocols.
  • Clean and disinfect dog kennels, cat cages, litter boxes, dishes, bedding and shelter equipment.
  • Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report concerns to Animal Control Officer.
  • Wash laundry, clean food preparation areas, stock supplies, and perform general housekeeping.
  • Safely handle friendly animals and follow all shelter safety and disease-control procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Animal care experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Physical requirements: 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, lifting and cleaning.
  • Must be comfortable working around animals, cleaning chemicals, and varying environmental conditions.

On-call, as needed
Salary: $25/hour
